En ja hoor, nog een baby! En zondag wordt er geborreld dus hoort daar een cadeautje bij. Ik kocht de stofjes bij de Soldeur en dit kwam uit mijn machien:

Er is een baby geboren! Mijn Beste Vriendin Van Vroeger (nog steeds een vriendin maar beetje uit het oog verloren, maar niet uit het hart!!) heeft een dochtertje! En dus wou ik zelf een cadeautje maken voor het meisje. Maar o wee wat te kiezen? Ik ging voor een popje (pinterest ideetje die je hier kan vinden), een slabbetje (een copietje van een eigen slabbetje) en een pampermapje uit een boek van de KVLV (maar Mme Zsazsa heeft er ook een patroontje voor). En dit werd het resultaat. Ik ben reuze benieuwd naar haar reactie..

A new baby is born! My Best Friend when I was young (still a good friend but we lost contact somewhere along the way) has a baby girl! So I decided to make a present for the little girl. But what to choose?? I chose a doll (pinterest idea you can find here), a bib (I copied one of ours) and a diaperholder. There is the result.

Hier is hij dan, Simon's weekend tas. Eigenlijk de reden waarom ik ben beginnen bloggen. Want ik zocht een manier om het patroon makkelijk te delen met vriendinnen. Bij deze dan ook mijn eerste Tutorial!

Here you are, Simon's weekend bag. The reason why I decided to start blogging. I was looking for a way to share the pattern with friends in an easy way. I took a good look at a bag my daughter got for her birthday, made some adjustments and drawings and wrote myself a guideline.

And so I present to you: my first tutorial!

(ik moet zeggen dat ik het patroon en de naaiwijze zelf heb uitgedokterd en ik absoluut geen professionele naaister ben! Als sommige stappen anders of eenvoudiger kunnen uitgevoerd worden laat gerust iets weten)

(I must add that I am merely a self taught seamstress so it may be that a few steps should better be done otherwise. Please feel free to share tips and tricks!)

Om de tas te maken heeft u nodig:
To make the bag you will need:

1m (breedte 1,40 m) stoftype 1 (hier oranje) - 1m orange fabric (1m40 wide)
1m (breedte 1,40 m) stoftype 2 (hier blauw) - 1m blue fabric (1m40 wide)
0,2 m witte stof of een restje voor de ster - 0,20 m white fabric for the star
1,5m voeringstof (hier sterretjes) - 1m50 lining fabric (here white stars on blue)
1m stevige vlieseline - 1m fusable interlining (the thickest you can find)
3m balein (foto zie verder, te koop in de veritas) - 3m baleen
3m biaisband van 3cm breed (hier oranje) - 3m bias binding width 3cm (here orange)
1 stevige sportrits lengte 60cm in kleur 1 (oranje) - 1 firm orange sports zipper length 60cm
2 ritsen lengte 40cm in kleur 2 (blauw) - 2 ordinary blue zippers length 40cm
1,5 m stevige tassenband voor de schouderriem - 1m50 strap for the shoulderband
velcro
verstelbare stukjes voor de schouderband - pieces to make your shoulderband adjustable to the right length
eventueel noppen voor onderaan - if you like, metal naps (?) to strenghten the bottom

De stoffen komen van op het stoffenfestijn, de ritsen en het garen van bij de Soldeur, de baleinen van bij de veritas en de verstelbare stukjes en noppen van een oude tas van de kringloopwinkel.

I bought the fabrics on the annual fabrics fair, the zippers and other supplies at our local fabrics store and the shoulder and bottom accessories I cut off an old bag I bought at the local thrift store.

Hoe zet je dit in elkaar in 10 stappen

How to put it all together in 10 steps

stap 1: print het patroon af op de juiste grootte, knip het uit en zet het op de stof met ongeveer 1cm zoom (zoom is niet in het patroon inbegrepen). Snij de stukken stof uit en strijk de vlieseline er op. Snij uit de vlieseline. De draagriemen staan niet op de patroonbladen en dienen 54 x 5 cm (56 x 7 cm incl 1 cm naadwaarde) te zijn.

step 1: Print the pattern at the right size and cut out the pattern, copie it to the right pieces of fabric and draw 1 cm of seam allowance (there is no seam allowance added to the pattern, you have to do this yourself). Cut out the pieces and iron them on the fusable interlining. Cut out.

stap 2: snij de grote witte ster uit de witte stof + 5mm zoom. Strijk de zomen om. Speld het op de juiste plaats (of gebruik wat Pritt op de hoekjes) en naai zo dicht mogelijk bij de rand.

step 2: cut out the white star with 5mm seam allowance, iron the seams, pin it to the right place (or use a little easy washable children's glue at the tops) and sew as close as possible to the edge.

stap 3: naai de rits aan de voorflap van de voorzak.

step 3: sew the zipper to the front piece of the frontpocket.

Dan, met de juiste kanten van de stof op elkaar, naai je de voering (sterretjes) aan de blauwe voorkant van je zak.

Then, right sides together, sew the inner lining to the front piece of the bag

stap 4: leg de voorzak netjes op het grote oranje voorste deel van je tas, alle onderste randen precies gelijk, en teken een lijntje waar je je rits zal moeten vastzetten (de rits zet je makkelijker vast als ze open is maar dat wil zeggen dat je de juiste inplanting niet weet, vandaar).

step 4: place the front bag neatly on the front piece

and draw a line where to sew the frontbags zipper to the front body piece. (it is easier to zip the zipper open before attaching it to the front piece but in this way you otherwise don't know the exact location)

flip it over and pin it in place

Vastnaaien.
Checken of je rits makkelijk open en dicht gaat.

sew.

You can open the zipper before sewing if you want and use a zipper foot, makes it easier.

Check your zipper if it opens nicely and fluently.

stap 5: maak de tunnel waar je de balein zal inschuiven vast aan het geheel. CHECK dat de tunnel breed genoeg is voor de breedte van je platieken strip. Ik gebruikte hier een strook van de oranje stof, vouwde die dubbel, strijken, vastspelden en vastnaaien. Let erop dat op het einde een kleine opening overblijft op de balein er in te schuiven. Het laatste stukje van je oranje strook omvouwen om een net boordje te hebben (zoals getoond in stap 3 van Mme Zsazsa haar uitleg hier).

step 5: attach the tunnel where you will at the end put in the plastic strip (baleen) that gives your bag extra strength and gives it the nice shape you want. MAKE SURE that the tunnel is wide enough for the tipe of piping that you bought!! I used a strip of the orange fabric, folded it double, ironed it, pinned it and sewed it in place. Make sure you leave a small hole at the end to put in the strip afterwards. Fold the end of the fabric back for about 1 cm to have a nice finish (as in step 3 over here)

Snij de gebogen randen een beetje in zodat deze netjes de bocht kunnen maken.

cut the tunnel for about 3mm at the curved corners to create a fluid line.

stap 6: om de handgrepen te maken moet je de naad omstijken, de verkeerde kanten op elkaar leggen en zo dicht mogelijk bij de rand naaien. Steek speldjes door de markeringen aan de achterkant van je stof om de juiste inplanting van je banden te weten. Naai vast. Ik heb een rechthoekje met een kruisje (diagonalen) erin gestikt voor de stevigheid.

step 6: To make the straps, you iron the seam allowance, put the wrong sides together and sew along the sides as close as possible. Put pins through the marks at the back of your bag piece to locate the position of the straps.

Mark it. Sew the straps to the bag.

I sewed a rectangle with a cross in the middle to give it extra strength.

Herhaal alle stappen voor de andere kant van je tas.

Beide kanten zouden er intussen zo moeten uitzien:

Repeat all the steps for the other side of your bag.

Both sides should now look something like this:

Tijd om je werk al eens te bewonderen!

(ik moest mij inhouden om mijn zoon niet wakker te maken om hem "zijn tas" te tonen..)

Time to admire your work!

(I had to strenghten myself not to wake up my son to show him...)

stap 7: Plaats de oranje bovenstof en de bijhorende voering (alle twee de kanten) met de mooie kant op elkaar. Plaats de gesloten rits er tussen. Speld vast. Sla stofdelen om (mooie kant zichtbaar maken). Controleer of de beide oranje kanten gelijk liggen tegenover elkaar. Speld vast, open de rits, draai de mooie kanten weer naar elkaar toe en naai de rits vast.

step 7: place the lining and outer fabric of the top right sides together with the sports zipper in between the layers. Close your zipper and pin the zipper in between the layers on both sides. Check if both sides of the fabric are on the same level. Open your zipper, turn right sides together again and sew.

Het zou er zo moeten uitzien (zie afb hierboven).

It should look like this.

stap 8: de zijzakken. Naai de hoeken van zowel de buitenstof als de voering dicht (korte kantjes zoals hierboven zichtbaar). Naai de velcro aan de buitenstof. (ben ik vergeten maar ga dit wel nog eens doen)

step 8: the side pockets. Sew the corners of both lining and outer fabric.

Sew the velcro on the outer lining (I forgot about that with this bag, will do it later..).

Leg de mooie kanten op elkaar. Naai rondom op ongeveer 3mm van de rand maar hou 4cm ongenaaid aan de onderkant om de zak binnenstebuiten te kunnen draaien.

Draai de zak binnenstebuiten.

Place right sides together.

Sew all around the edge but leave 4 cm unsewed at the bottom to turn the pocket inside out.

Turn the pocket inside out.

Naai de zijzakken onderaan aan de blauwe onderkant van de tas.

Hierdoor sluit je ook de keeropening (randjes naar binnen vouwen)

Sew the side pockets at the bottom on the bottom piece of your weekend bag.

By doing this you also close the hole you used to turn the pockets inside out.

Om de sluitkleppen te maken heb ik voeringstof met vlieseline versterkt en in dezelfde sterretjesstof de flap gevoerd. Naai de andere kant van de velcro aan de binnenkant. Naai buiten en binnenzijde aan elkaar vast op ongeveer 3mm. Werk af met de oranje biais (werkwijze volgens Mme Zsazsa hier)

To make the covers I used on both sides the inner lining fabric and I ironed some interlining to one of the pieces. Stitch the other part of the velcro to the inner lining piece. Sew outer and inner lining together at 3 mm. Add the biais to the edge. (how to add biais you can find here)

Ik maakte deze flap vast aan de rand van de blauwe onderkant zodat deze bij het naaien mooi op zijn plaats zou blijven. Het zal volledig vastgezet worden als het oranje bovendeel met de sportrits wordt vastgenaaid aan de blauwe onderkant van de tas.

I secured this piece to the bottompiece of the main bag with a few stitches to keep it in place. It will get fixed properly to the bag when the upper part with the sportszipper is sewn to the bottom of your bag.

Je zou nu deze delen moeten hebben.

Zet de 4 metalen noppen vast. Snij de oranje schoudertasband op de juiste lengte en naai vast rond de metalen stukjes om ze op juiste lengte te kunnen regelen. Snij een kort stukje lint af om ook het andere einde van de schouderband te kunnen vastzetten.

You should now have these parts.

Put the naps (I don't know the exact word but it's the four iron pieces on the bottom to keep the bag from wearing out) on the bottom of your bag. Cut the (here orange) shoulder band and put in the pieces to adjust the length of the strap. Sew to fix the pieces to the strap. In the system I used I had to sew one side of the strap to the bag and sew a loop that went through the metal loop at the strap to the other side of the bag.

stap 9: tijd om ons gerief te testen! Dit deel is redelijk zwaar voor ons machien. Ik doe de echt zware delen altijd handmatig (draaien aan het wieletje) om mijn machine een beetje te ontzien. Leg het oranje bovendeel met de sportrits met de verkeerde kanten op elkaar op het blauwe bodemdeel met daartussen de schouderband netjes in het midden, speld vast en naai alles aan elkaar. PAS OP: voor de de tweede kant op de zelfde manier vastnaaid best eens checken of de blauwe onderkant even lang is als de omtrek van de onderkant van de blauwe zak met ster aan de voorkant. Je wil immers dat de bovenrand van de zijzakken gelijk komt met de bovenkant van de voorzakken. Nu kan je dit nog wat bijstellen. En de volledige omtrek (blauw en oranje) moet uiteraard gelijk zijn aan de omtrek van de voorkanten.

Ik hoop dat dit allemaal nog duidelijk is ;)

step 9: lets test our machinery! This part is quite heavy for your sewing machine. I always do the very hard (thick) parts by turning the wheel at the side of my machine by hand so I don't burden my sweetie to much! Now you put (right sides together again) the upper piece with the sports zipper together with the bottom piece and the shoulder strap/loop (placed neatly in the middle) and sew the whole thing together. I did check whether the circumference of the front pieces (the ones with the big star) matched the bottom and side length before stitching the sides of this part. I also checked if the orange upper part was equal in size with the orange upper part of the front piece (and vice versa with the blue part (with the white star) and the blue bottom of the bag).

I hope this all makes sense..

Also zigzag the (hidden part) edge of the orange shoulder strap a few times to prevent loosening when the bag is heavy loaded.

Eerst zonder de voering van de onderkant (om nog een schoon overzicht op het geheel te houden)

First without inner lining of the bottom.

Dan de voering van de onderkant toevoegen.

Then I added the inner lining (to keep a good view on the whole).

En dan maar duimen dat het plaatje klopt en de zijkant van de tas overeen stemt met de voorkanten. Driewerf hoera!

Then I had my fingers crossed that the bottom and upper part of the bag actually matched in size with the sides of the bag. Hands up for patience and correct measures!

stap 10: Speld de voering van de voorkanten vast en naai vast. Werk af met biais om de randen te verstoppen.
Draai het geheel binnenstebuiten, steek de baleinen erin en klaar!

step 10: Pin the inner lining of the fronts to the bag and stitch.

Finish the seams with biais to hide the edges.

Turn the bag inside out, put in the plastic band and you're finished!

Stof voor durf het zelvers / Fabrics for dare-it-yourself

De Soldeur (hét adres voor stofjes in de buurt van Kortrijk) gaf uitverkoop op haar oude adres wegens verhuis. Groot succes, het was er over de koppen lopen. Ook ik mocht een buit naar huis slepen. Waaronder deze molentjes stof. Mijn dochter Nina was er alvast blij mee.

De Soldeur (the place to be for fabrics here in Kortrijk) gave a sale because of their move to a new location. A big succes, push and shove! I was one of the lucky who could bring home a nice catch. Including this gorgeous fabric with mills. My daughter Nina was very happy.

Het patroon komt uit Stof voor durf het zelvers. Absoluut mijn lievelingsboek (en van vele andere). Het patroontje van het kleedje zal u wel nog een aantal keer zien passeren. Vandaar ook een foto van 'het boek'. Vooruit, ga het maar kopen, u zal er geen spijt van hebben.

The pattern comes from the book "stof voor durf het zelvers" (fabric for dare-it-yourself). Absolutely my favorite book (and many others'). You will see this pattern pass from time to time here. That's why I posted a picture of the book.

Go on, buy it, you will not regret it. (not yet available in other languages I'm afraid but the patterns and pictures are quite obvious)

Helpende handjes in huis tutorial / Helping hands shores board tutorial

Het is vakantie en dus wordt er weer druk gezocht naar bezigheden voor de kindjes. Liefst met niet te veel kuiswerk achteraf. Helemaal mooi wordt het als dit kan gecombineerd worden met helpende handjes in huis! Daarom presenteren wij u: het helpende handjes magneetbord! Inspiratie komt van pinterest (meer bepaald hier). De verwerking is van eigen hand.

Summer holidays! And so we're busy looking for kids activities. Preferably without to much of cleaning up to do afterwards. And when it can be combined with getting the kids to help out with shores it's perfect. This is why we present you: the helping hands magnetic shores board. Inspired by pinterest, the design is our own.

Ik heb van elk van de kinderen een foto genomen terwijl ze het taakje aan het uitvoeren waren. Dat was al dikke fun. Daarna bewerkt in Instagram en op stikkerpapier gezet. Stikkers op magneetvel geplakt, in stukjes snijden en voila, de persoonlijke taakjesmagneetjes.

I took a picture of each of the children doing their shores. That was already big fun! Then I adjusted the pictures in instagram, printed them on sticker paper, glued it to magnetic foil, cut them and voila, your personal shores magnets!

De plateau's komen van de kringloop en werden door henzelf geschilderd. Het is niet te zien hier maar eigenlijk zitten ze in hun onderbroek (behalve broer, die kan al behoorlijk netjes schilderen). 's Avonds laat heeft moeder er dan de namen opgeschilderd met zilververf.

Luckily the picture doesn't show but they're painting in their undies (except for my oldes son who already knows how to handle a brush). Late at night I painted their names on the plates with a silver pen.
